Named the #5 Best Restaurant in Texas for 2019
“Italian is spoken with a modern accent at Intero. No statues of Roman fauns or candles in Chianti bottles here. Instead, you’re ushered into simple white rooms with angular wooden chairs and mysterious, roiling abstract art. In this setting, talented chef and co-owner Ian Thurwachter has reimagined risotto with French and German touches; the mellow rice is swirled with Brie and bolstered with dry-aged beef sausage and a bit of cabbage.”
Welcomes You with Warmth
“The chameleonic cullinaryism showed a sense of utility and appreciation for ingredients and also exemplified what seems to be at the heart of Intero: While some restaurants do too little with too much, Intero paints as richly as possible while pulling from more limited resources... As with much good Italian cuisine, there is a directness to the food at Intero.”

Tradition and Elevated Comfort with a Holistic Approach
“If you’ve ever wandered down cobblestone Italian streets following the warm glow of café lights into one of those family-run, not-in-the-guidebooks local gems, you may feel a kind of déjà vu on your first visit to Intero Restaurant.”
Former East Austin Motorcycle Shop Turned Upscale Italian Eatery
“A new concept from Crave Artisan Chocolate owner Krystal Craig and her husband, chef Ian Thurwachter… The menu features a contemporary take on Italian fare, far from the red sauce American-Italian that dominates most of the category. Think Gulf fish crudo with Texas Valley grapefruit, chili padron, a beet crisp, and Brussels sprouts with a pinch of Maldon salt unexpectedly paired with house pickles, fried seeds, and tuna-flavored tonnato sauce.”
A Pioneer in Beer and Chocolate Pairings
“Krystal Craig and her husband Chef Ian Thurwachter… plan to continue hosting and expanding their beer and chocolate pairing events."
Intero is a Place that You Will Feel Home
"From Jeffrey’s to Vespaio Krystal and Ian have set their standards for the food your tongue experiences by learning from the best. From knowing who slaughters your meat to creating their own chocolate with rosemary or lavender your experience is going to be remembered… Love is truly found in the food, the ambiance and wooden tables Ian made himself from reclaimed wood."
Risotto and Chocolate
“The name is Italian for “complete” — its goal is to waste nothing, from using whole animals to every part of the seasonal produce. This’ll mean dishes like smoked ricotta, spiced goat, eggplant zeppole, chestnut pappardelle, along with a lot of risottos such as artichoke, tomato, pumpkin, pork, and more.
Intero will be run by chef Ian Thurwachter and Krystal Craig, who have been involved in the city’s culinary scene for quite some time. Thurwachter worked at both Vespaio and Enoteca Vespaio, as well as McGuire Moorman Hospitality Lamberts, Josephine House, and Jeffrey's. Craig currently runs Crave Artisan Chocolate.
Because of Craig’s cocoa background, Intero will include a chocolate counter. Truffles are on deck along with other take-home chocolates."
